The island can be reached by ferry from the village Hvannasund, and schedules may vary with the weather. The island also has helicopter service 3 (winter) to 4 (summer) times a week. Here too, weather conditions can affect the ability to get there and back at the desired times.
Before your visit, we’ll help you find the best travel options and make sure your arrival and departure fit most comfortably with your stay.
There is a small local shop in the village - actually the original shop that has always been part of the house with a selection of basic goods — most stocked during the summer season. There is also a small café/restaurant that opens in the warmer months. Still, we recommend bringing food and any special items you may need; Geilin has a fully equipped kitchen for preparing meals and shared dining.
By prior arrangement, we can also host and assist with special stays or group visits — preparing meals, sharing local knowledge, and helping to organize activities or research-related logistics.
Please contact us in advance if you’d like to plan such an arrangement.
We’re happy to assist with any practical questions before your stay, whether you’re visiting as a small group, a researcher, or a family seeking quiet time by the ocean.
